Juletider!
Full rush hela tiden just nu. Det ena avlöser det andra och hela Manila fullständigt flödar i julsmyckningar och julmusik trots att svetten lackar (eller kanske så att svetten lackar!). Även om Manila har haft officiella juldekorationer och julmusik sedan 1 september så är det mer och större nu!
Och i skolan är det inte sämre. Vi har varit på två fantastiska julföreställningar.
Key stage 1 (upp till årskurs 2) har satt upp Penguin Pete. En supersöt historia om en Pingvin som är trött på att äta fisk hela tiden och bestämmer sig för att söka upp tomten och berätta det för honom. På vägen till Nordpolen träffar han på kängurur, apor och Jack Frost medan han korsar olika kontinenter. Mycket sång och musik och härliga framträdanden av en stor grupp underbara ungar!
Självklart var det professionell ljussättning och ljudet likaså. Och rekvisitan fixade klassföräldrarna, med några hjälpande händer från oss andra. De hade till och med tillverkat en iglo av curryförpackningar! Jag är så imponerad av allt runt om kring! Det är som värsta West End produktionen. Men mest av allt är jag imponerad av barnen! Och inte att förglömma, samtliga kostymer är uppsydda för barnen som också fick behålla dem efteråt!P
Elin var en jättesöt berättare som tog föreställningen framåt. Hon var lite besviken att hon inte fick en större roll, men jag tror den var precis lagom så första gången hon stod på scenen. Det finns rum att växa!
Noels key stage stod för härliga, rappa och mycket underhållande Pirates of the Curry Bean! Snabba repliker med många skämt (några som vi inte fattade – engelska ordlekar när de är som bäst!) och en och annan född stjärna! Det hela handlar om tvillingarna som hittar en skattkarta men i samma veva blir deras mamma kidnappad av pirater och de sätter iväg på jakt efter henne.
Självklart var scenen ett mästerverk, kostymerna lika så och ljud och ljus som om det vore en proffsföreställning! Jag har aldrig sett något liknande. Och alla barnen får behålla sina kostymer, specialsydda för var och en! Bra att ha till någon Halloween trick or treat runda.
Det har också varit en julshop på skolan där barnen kunnat handla julklappar till nära och kära. Jag har hjälpt till att både sälja och slå in paket. Många fina fynd blev det. Roligast var att hjälpa till när de små förskolebarnen skulle handla! Underbara ungar hur de tänker och handlar! En fin My little Pony gosedjur till pappa och en ritbok till mamma! Finns nog många föräldrar som blir glad och några som blir förvånade. Men det är ju tanken som räknas! Det var i alla fall underbart att höra dem resonera runt vad de skulle köpa. En lite pojke hade en hel kasse med gosedjur till sin syster – så mycket kärlek! Och det är ju precis det som är julens budskap, eller hur?!

It’s that special time of year!
Full speed a head all the time at the moment. One thing after another and Manila is completely overflowing with Christmas decorations and Christmas music though it doesnät at all feel like the merry times are coming any time soon. Sweat is pouring down my face as I walk around in this Wonderland. It has though been there, present and maybe not full out, but still since 1st September. But it feels like the different places are out competing each other in the size and creativity of the decorations! Here more is more and better!
And school is also getting into the Christmas spirit. We have been to two amazing theater productions that would make any Broadway show jealous!
Key stage 1 (up to year 2 or age 7) performed Penguin Pete. A super sweet story about a Penguin who gets tired of eating fish all the time and decides to go look for Santa and tell him. On the way to the North Pole he meets kangaroos, monkeys and Jack Frost while crossing different continents. A lot of singing and lovely performances by a big group of wonderful kids!
And on top of the kids there was, of course, professional light and sound. And the props had been made or bought by the parent reps, with some helping hands for the rest of us. They even made a whole igloo by the inner parts of whole sales curry packages! I am so impressed by everything I have seen, but most of all I am impressed by the kids. All these children who many of them have never been on a stage before, getting up and performing a 45-minute show. On top of it all costumes were made specially for the show and for each individual. Measured and all! And they all got to keep them!
Elin was a super cute story teller who carried the story forward. She was a bit disappointed after that she didn’t get a bigger part, but I think it was exactly right for her at this point. There is definitely room for growth!
Noel’s key stage performed the quick and entertaining show Pirates of the Curry Bean! Quick lines with a whole lot of good old English jokes playing with words! The musical is about the young twins Jack and Liza who finds a treasure map. But when the infamous Redbeard and his pungent Pirates of the Curry Bean steal the map and kidnap their mother, the race is on to rescue her, reclaim the map and find the treasure!
Of course, the stage was a master piece, the costumes as well and the sound and light as we were in London or New York! I have never seen anything like if in schools before. And all kids get to keep the costumes, made specially for them with measurements taken. Good for a future Halloween maybe!
There has also been a Christmas shop at school, where all children have been able to buy gifts for all their loved ones. Class by class has come down to shop for some great deals. I have been giving a helping hand both with wrapping gifts and helping the kids choose what to buy. My favorite time was when the reception came! Soo cute with all the small children shopping. And so funny to hear their reasoning behind what to give to mum and dad! A My Little Pony to dad and a writing pad for mum. There are for sure some parents who will get surprised (or not?) by their gifts on Christmas eve or morning. Whatever day you celebrate. But it is the thought that counts. And they get to feel very big and mature with their money and all, choosing all by themselves. One little boy had a whole bag full of stuffed animals for his sister – so much love! And that is what counts when it is Christmas, right?!
